The ESADE Alumni Public Management Club invites you to attend this dinner colloquium with José Manuel Soria, Minister of Industry, Energy and Tourism.



José Manuel Soria

He holds a degree in Economics and Business Studies and is an Expert in Sales and a State Economist. Among his political activity it is worth highlighting that he is the current President of the Partido Popular (PP) for the Canary Islands (as of 3rd October 1999) and member of the National Board and the National Executive Committee of the PP. He also served as the Mayor of Las Palmas de Gran Canaria from 1995-2003; President of the Cabildo of Gran Canaria from 19th June 2003; Regional Deputy and President of the Popular Party’s Parliamentary Group since June 2003; Vice-President and Minister of Finance of the Canary Islands Government from 2007 to 2010. In the field of public administration, he has served as a market analyst for Venezuela and the Caribbean through the Spanish Embassy in Venezuela (1980-1981); Head of the Imports Service at the Ministry of Trade (1984); Head of Foreign Trade for the same ministry (1985); Advisor to the Minister of Finance (1986-1987); Chief of Staff of the General Secretariat of Commerce (1988-1989). Soria has lectured on international economics and municipal management at various academic forums nationally and internationally. He was also Professor of Macroeconomics and International Economics at Madrid’s Centre for Business Studies between 1984 and 1989. In business, he was President of Consignataria Oceanic; Vice-President of the Caja de Ahorros de Canarias (Canaries Savings Bank); President of Mercalaspalmas; President of the Municipal Water Company of Las Palmas de Gran Canaria; Director of the Port Authority of Las Palmas; President of the Institución Ferial de Canarias; President of the Free Trade Zone of Las Palmas; President of the Society for the Promotion of Gran Canaria; President of the Island Water Board of Gran Canaria; President of the Airports Committee of Gran Canaria; SODECAN board member; Vice-President of the Joint Association of the Arinaga Industrial Estate.
