The ESADE Alumni Finance Club and Family Business Club invite you to a session that will explore how, by adopting various structures and management strategies, family offices have managed to become a new business model of great interest to the financial markets.

Due to the volume of the funds that they manage, the way in which they manage them, and the markets in which they invest, many family offices almost belong in the category of institutional investors. Their importance and influence are growing continually, as is the diversity of their structures and business projects.

To demonstrate this diversity, we will be hearing from the investment directors of two very different projects: Pedro Gila of Vía Ágora, the family office of Juan Antonio Gómez-Pintado, and Alberto Rodríguez of Inveravante, the business group of Manuel Jove.

Alberto Rodríguez, Director of Financial Holdings at Inveravante
Pedro Gila Sánchez-Barba, Wealth Director at Vía Ágora

Alberto Rodríguez

Since 2004, Mr. Rodríguez has served as Director of Financial Holdings at the corporation Inveravante. In this capacity, he manages holdings in traded companies (direct holdings, such as BBVA, in addition to investment companies with variable capital, also known as SICAVs), private-equity holdings (direct or through third-party-managed vehicles), and Avanteselecta, a food and agriculture group that produces and distributes wines and cheeses. He is directly responsible for the investment (and divestment), planning and tracking of these companies, and for representing Inveravante before the administrative bodies of portfolio companies. He participates in the administrative bodies of Inveravante’s holding companies, and since 2007 has been Secretary of the María José Jove Foundation.Previously, he worked at Arthur Andersen (now Garrigues), Banco Urquijo and Banco Popular. He holds a Bachelor’s Degree in Economics and Business from the Complutense University of Madrid.

Pedro Gila Sánchez-Barba

Since February 2008, he has served as Director of Vía Ágora, the family office of Juan Antonio Gómez-Pintado. He participates actively in the group’s tax and asset planning process, as well as in designing, executing and tracking its investment policy. He is a member of the Steering Committee of Vía Célere, the business group owned by Juan Antonio Gómez-Pintado that develops real estate in Spain and Brazil. Previously, he worked for Altae Banco Privado, Corporación Financiera Caja Madrid, Banco 21 and BBVA, holding various positions of responsibility in both Spain and Morocco. He holds a Bachelor’s Degree in Business from the Complutense University of Madrid and completed the General Management Programme (PDG) at IESE and Euroforum (INSEAD).
