One of the most important challenges facing the third sector is to strengthen non-profit organisations’ boards of trustees. States wield increasing control over the governance practices of NGOs. Donors, sponsors and partners have a growing interest in the proper functioning of the organisations’ decision-making organs.

It is absolutely crucial for the future of any entity that its board be competitive and capable of efficiently leading the organisation towards its objectives. Organisations with dynamic and highly involved trustees who bring a wide range of knowledge to the table are better positioned to use their resources successfully.

Alumni Giving Back aims to help improve the management of public and private social entities and support the continuing education of those responsible for their governing bodies. At this second session, Amy Leaverton and Maria Sureda (Lic&MBA 02) will discuss the main challenges faced by members of NGOs’ governing bodies and the skills and abilities they need in order to address them successfully. Also, Daniel Arenas (PMD 04) will discuss the barriers and prejudices that prevent business professionals from becoming NGO trustees. Josep Santacreu (DSIS 86/PMD 89), President of the Alumni Giving Back Advisory Board and Vice President of ESADE Alumni will preside the session.
