The ESADE Alumni Family Business Club cordially invites you to this session, which will address some of the keys to success of family businesses. A family-run business must be an efficient and competitive company and, as such, must keep abreast of market demands and the competition in order to develop and guarantee its long-term existence. This is fundamental in order to foster the innovation of its products, the competitiveness of its processes, the efficiency of its management, the motivation, commitment and skills of its employees, and the quality of its leadership. All family businesses must suitably respond to the specific problems faced by their owners.

At this session, we will be joined by owners and representatives of the so-called casas centenarias (century-old restaurants) in Spain, who will discuss the requirements to be considered a  casa centenaria. Which are the key factors to achieve this label? How have business families and family businesses evolved through the generations? What challenges do they face today?

All these restaurants -numbering over 150 in Spain- have managed, after much effort, to maintain image, good service and tradition throughout their hundred-year-plus history.

Here in Madrid there are several examples, which all of us must surely have heard of: Bodega La Ardosa, Casa Botín, Café Gijón, Casa Alberto, Casa Ciriaco, Casa Labra, Casa Pedro, La Bola, La Casa del Abuelo, Lhardy, Los Galayos and Taberna Malacatín.
