Albert Serra and Àngel Saz identified the differences and similarities between the public and private sectors in this event organised by the ESADE Alumni Public Management Club.

The past three decades have seen a continuous and significant process of modernisation and change in terms of public administration in governments throughout most of the countries in the developing and developed world. The central theme of this process lies in the transition from a bureaucratic and autarchic state to a relational state geared to the creation of public value. In this context, management of resources in public, private and civil society sectors – operating under relational forms of cooperation and partnership – brings a new paradigm to public policy management.

The session focused on contextualising this process of change and identifying the differences and similarities between the public and private sectors, in addition to the complexities and diversity of the interrelationship between the public and private sectors in terms of managing social governance and creating public value.
