The 15th edition of Formula Student Spain (FSS 2026) once again assembled university teams that competed in different technical and business trials to test both their engineering knowledge and their ability to develop feasible projects from the standpoint of management and business. And the Esade community was there yet another year via different initiatives.

Different alumni from the Esade Alumni Automotive and Mobility Club participated in organizing the Business category, while members of Esade Motor partnered as voluntary judges to assess the projects. Plus, Esade supported the competition as a partner organization and sponsor.

Business vision in the competition

One of the unique features of Formula Student is that the participating teams not only have to design and build a competition vehicle but also have to show the economic and strategic feasibility of their projects by presenting business plans to a jury made up of professionals from different fields of business.

Within this context, professionals associated with the Esade Alumni Automotive and Mobility Club and Esade Motor contributed their experience in strategy, management, and finances to assessing the proposals submitted by the students. The participation of alumni and professionals allows the university teams to be exposed to analysis criteria similar to the ones they will later encounter in the business world, where technological innovation has to come hand-in-hand with sustainable, well-organized business models.

Esade’s contribution to Formula Student Spain 2026 went beyond institutional support. As a partner to the competition, the school sponsored the Excellence Award in the Business area, which seeks to reward one of the business projects. After the different business plans submitted were assessed, the award went to the ARUS Andalucía Racing Team from Seville. According to Juan Fernández Laporta, vice-president of the Esade Alumni Automotive and Mobility Club, the quality of the projects submitted made the choice of the best team particularly difficult, reflecting the participants’ strong preparation. As part of this award, the winning team received a discount on a MSc program at Esade, an initiative geared at strengthening the connection between university talent, graduate training, and professional development.

Esade Motor exposes students to the automotive sector

Esade’s presence at Formula Student Spain highlights the work done by Esade Motor. Created in 2017 and spearheaded by students, the association was founded with the mission of connecting the university with companies in the automotive and mobility sector.

Through projects, activities, and partnerships with companies in the industry, Esade Motor aims to offer students opportunities to gain practical experience, foster teamwork, and learn firsthand about the challenges of a sector in the throes of transformation processes, like electrification, digitalization, and new mobility solutions. The association also promotes contact between students, alumni, and professionals, contributing to making connections between the university and the business community.
