ACCEM

Accem is an NGO that assists with the arrival of asylum seekers within the framework of the Temporary Asylum Service of the Spanish Ministry of Inclusion, Social Security and Migration. Asylum seekers who cannot afford to support themselves for the duration of the application process can use the Temporary Asylum Service, which provides them with a place to live, all the basic necessities (food, clothing, medicine, healthcare, etc.), legal advice throughout the process, psychological care, Spanish classes, and training and employment guidance.

Volunteering opportunities (THROUGHOUT SPAIN):

o    Social work, medical care or administrative guidance for people assisted by the NGO. This covers a wide range of types of assistance, from helping asylum seekers enrol in training courses, taking them to city government offices, buying clothes, showing them around the area (libraries, civic centres, etc.).
o    Teaching Spanish. This requires a commitment of at least six months and experience as a language teacher for foreigners.
o    Looking after children while their mothers are in Spanish classes.

BAYT AL THAQAFA

The Bayt Al-Thaqafa Foundation aims to help migrants achieve social, cultural, civic and political integration without renouncing their own identity. The foundation offers guidance and advice programmes focusing on issues that affect migrants’ lives as foreigners in Spain, with the aim of enabling them to become full citizens of a society where diversity does not mean inequality. The organisation is currently seeking people who want to support its mission: to welcome, dignify and defend the rights of all people who arrive in Spain in search of new opportunities (whether they are refugees or immigrants).

Volunteering opportunities (THROUGHOUT CATALONIA):

o    Conversation groups
o    Support for language learning (Catalan, Spanish, English) and adult literacy.
o    Support for minors as part of the children’s programme (tutoring, recreational centres and activities).
o    Individual assistance for people seeking employment or job training.
o    Support for the youth programme (language learning, sports activities and recreational outings).
o    Communication and awareness-raising.

To become a volunteer, it is necessary to attend an informational session explaining what the foundation is, how it works and what volunteering opportunities are available in order to ensure that the candidate’s expectations match those of the foundation. If the collaboration ultimately comes to fruition, a second interview is held with the contact person of the programme selected in accordance with the volunteer’s preferences and, above all, the organisation’s needs.

TANU – AJUDA NENS D’UCRAÏNA

The aim of Tanu is to guarantee the rights of children in Ukraine, enabling children and adolescents at risk of social exclusion to acquire family values. The organisation works on different projects in defence of children’s rights. It creates different programmes all over the world with the goal of providing training and promoting the defence of children’s rights. Foster families are the cornerstone of their work. With this project, they provide children and adolescents in Ukraine with the opportunity to experience a healthy and stable family model.

On Wednesday, 9th March, 92 children arrived in Catalonia and were welcomed by their host families. The organisation of the journey, the legal framework of the children and their host families, and the follow-up services are the responsibility of Tanu and the Catalan Directorate-General for Children and Adolescents. The children were accompanied by six adults affiliated with our partner in Nikopol, the Todo Corazón Foundation. We are currently covering the costs of housing and living expenses.

Tanu plans to raise funds to continue its active programmes and help the families of children who have not been able to make the journey.
