The ESADE Alumni Energy and Environment Club is holding its 3rd annual dinner featuring David Serrano, CEO of Districlima.
District heating and cooling networks are a thermal energy production and distribution system that enhances energy efficiency and decreases environmental impact whilst giving users many financial benefits and a safer, better supply. The system is based on the centralized production of heat and/or cold, preferably making use of waste power, and its distribution to buildings through a network of pipes buried in the streets or laid along service racks.
Barcelona is the area of Spain with the largest DHC network: Districlima, which has provided climatisation for the Forum and 22 @ zones for almost 15 years and also, recently, Hospital del Mar. With a network of more than 18 km Districlima supplies heat and cold to more than 100 buildings in the city (some 1,000,000 sq.m. surface area), avoiding the release of 20,287 tonnes of CO2 into the atmosphere each year.
