The Challenges for International Sports in a Changing World by former International Olympic Committee Director François Carrard

English

May 31 OF 2018 from 06:45 PM to 09:15 PM

The ESADE Alumni Lausanne Chapter would like to invite you to their next event in Lausanne, a talk by former director of the International Olympic Committee, top sports lawyer and arbitrator, François Carrard: The Challenges facing International Sports in a Changing World.

As a former director of the International Olympic Committee, top sports lawyer and arbitrator François Carrard knows the world of sport better than most. On May 31st he will share with all the attendees his views about the last 50 years and the future 50 years of international sport. This event is part of Executives International (EI)’s Golden Jubilee celebration to which ESADE Alumni are invited to participate thanks to the ESADE Alumni Lausanne Chapter-EI's exclusive collaboration agreement.

Mr Carrard will ask some fundamental questions about what a sport entails (and does not) and what this means for players, spectators, sponsors, managers and regulators. He will consider the rise of elite sport and the impact on the grassroots of sport. He will reflect on the future of the Olympics and the considerable investments involved in staging this event. The threat posed by drugs, the politicization of sport, the role of big sponsors, the importance of broadcasting and much more will be covered in a wide-ranging and potentially thought-provoking presentation. Above all, he will help us make sense of the many challenges - social, scientific, political and financial - that face the world of international sport and will highlight the implications and opportunities for all of us today.
