May 17 OF 2018 from 09:00 AM to 12:30 PM

The ESADE Alumni Law Club and the ESADE Law Department are pleased to invite you to this talk entitled “The changing role of general counsel and legal service providers”

Globalization and digital technology have transformed the role of general counsel. This talk presents a series of studies that explain how general counsel has transformed the in-house legal function and its relationships with law firms. The studies include (a) interview-based studies of GC in the US, UK, Germany and Japan; (b) an analysis of make-and-buy decisions in Fortune-500 company legal departments; and (c) a survey of alternative legal service providers (ALSPs) in collaboration with Thomson Reuters.  Where does the power of general counsel come from? Internalizers vs externalizers: why do some legal departments rely on internal resources, and others on external resources? Future scenarios: the impact on law firms and alternative legal service providers (ALSPs).
