The circular economy. Plastic waste management: challenges and solutions

Spanish

March 06 OF 2019 from 09:00 AM to 10:30 AM

Only 13% of this waste is recycled; 70% ends up in landfills. At this rate, we will end up with no planet, no resources and no future according to some politicians and environmental activists.

Every year, between 5 and 13 million tons of plastic (between 1.5% and 4% of world production) end up in the oceans, causing at least USD 8 billion of damage. In the EU, very little plastic is re-used or recycled at the end of its useful life particularly in comparison with other materials such as paper, glass and metal. Globally, only 10% of plastic is recycled.

This talk held by the ESADE Alumni Energy and Environment Club will examine the outlook and strategies of the agents involved and the progress made in drafting European and Spanish packaging and waste regulations.
