The ESADE Alumni Energy & Environment Club is holding a tour of the Veolia group’s Ecoenergies power plant in the Barcelona Free Zone. This plant is the core of the thermal energy network for South Barcelona and L'Hospitalet de Llobregat. It uses renewable energy (biomass from the city of Barcelona and excess cooling capacity from LNG regasification in the port of Barcelona) to provide heating and cooling for an area of 15 million square metres and generate electricity.
The tour will visit the control room, boiler, turbine, and the heat and cold production chambers, and give an insight into how a district’s thermal energy network operates.
Ecoenergies Barcelona is a public-private partnership whose shareholders include Barcelona Council.
