'The new growth phase of the Spanish economy: investment opportunities' by Gonzalo Bernardos

Spanish

The ESADE Alumni Tarragona Club invites you to a Refresher Programme workshop, ''The new growth phase of the Spanish economy: investment opportunities'', by Gonzalo Bernardos, director and visiting professor in the Department of Economics, Finance and Accounting.

In 2015, the Spanish economy entered a new growth phase. A sluggish macroeconomic recovery quickly accelerated primarily on account of four factors in the international scenario: the slump in oil prices, the considerable depreciation of the euro, the purchase of public and some private bonds by the ECB, and the shift of tourists from some Maghreb countries and Turkey to Spain.

Gonzalo reckons that the Spanish economy will grow at an average rate of about 3% from 2017 to 2020. The favourable winds boosting the international economy will die down somewhat and be partly replaced by higher domestic demand driven mainly by higher household spending and higher private investment and particularly the return of investment in the construction industry to normal levels.

In his talk, Gonzalo Bernardo will analyze the key factors in this new growth phase and also the opportunities and risks of investing in a variety of assets: variable income, fixed income, housing, other types of property, foreign currency and gold.
