Pursuing Your Passion: How to Navigate Starting a Business in Canada

English

The ESADE Alumni Toronto Chapter is pleased to invite you to a presentation by Sean Hoff, one of our alumni members (’07), co-founder and managing partner of Moniker, UWO grad and HEC Paris ('08) alumni.

Sean will walk us through the thought process behind leaving a promising career on Bay Street to trading his cubicle in for a carry-on, whilst jumping headfirst into the world of entrepreneurship and navigating the waters of building a start-up from scratch.

His presentation will highlight the alternatives to the traditional career paths of business school graduates, and touch on the many steps and challenges facing all entrepreneurs thinking of starting their own business. Using real-life examples from his experience in the travel industry, he will share his tips and story about his journey from start-up to award-winning agency as guidance for any alumni considering venturing out on their own.

Sean Hoff
Sean Hoff is a UWO grad and ESADE ('07) & HEC Paris ('08) alumni who, after a "quarter-life crisis", left a career in investment banking to start a business in the travel industry where his passions lay. He is the co-founder and managing partner at Moniker, a creative corporate travel agency focused on helping clients in the finance, technology and real estate industries organise retreats, off-site and incentive programs. His company has grown from a small idea in 2012 to a team of 9 today, and its customer portfolio includes such well-known firms as Uber, Wealthsimple, Sun Life Financial and Bausch + Lomb. A champion of the "digital nomad" lifestyle, he has lived and worked in more than five countries since starting his career. He is an active member of the Toronto start-up community.
