ESADE Alumni Entrepreneurship is pleased to invite you to a session about the first steps towards setting up an e-commerce on Wednesday, 19 June at 19:00 at ESADE Barcelona (Av. Pedralbes 60-62), featuring Sergi Benet, co-CEO at Meller, and Humbert Sasplugas, co-founder of P D Paola.
This interview-format session chaired by Óscar Vayreda will answer questions such as: how does one start creating an e-commerce? What are the keys to growth? What part do social media and influencers play? What marketing strategy work best? What obstacles might arise?
Sergi Benet (BBA 12 & MSc 13), co-CEO at Meller Sergi Benet is currently co-CEO at Meller. He graduated with a BBA from the ESADE Business & Law School, continued his studies at the University of Virginia and then took an MSc in International Management also at ESADE. He began his career as a financial planner at BBVA before undertaking business development at MGVD. In 2014, together with his classmate Marco Grandi (BBA 12 & MSc 2013) and Borja Nadal, he created Meller.
Meller is a leading digital native brand of unique watches and sunglasses sold in over 25 countries. Melller aims to break away from traditional styles with a new line of timeless, minimalist watches and trendy sunglasses, all with a modernist design and a certain exotic Meller touch. The resulting explosion of colours conveys a certain outlook and lifestyle.
Humbert Sasplugas (Lic&Master 10), co-founder of P D Paola Jewelry Humbert Sasplugas is the co-founder and business development officer at P D Paola. He graduated from the ESADE Business & Law School with a BBA and pursued his studies in finance at the USC Marshall – School of Business in California. His career began as an analyst at the UBS Investment Bank. In 2012 he founded his first start-up, Baravento, and in 2014 he created the jewelry brand for millennials, P D PAOLA, together with his sister Paola Sasplugas.
P D PAOLA Jewelry, founded in 2014, is the result of a balanced combination of the creative and business worlds that aims to disrupt the jewelry industry. This online brand has a strong team of talented professionals working their way to the top of the international jewellery scenario. Today, P D PAOLA is a well loved and respected brand with thousands of customers and fans all over the world.
Oscar currently focuses on two fields: helping entrepreneurs and investors create successful start-ups; and helping companies make the most of the opportunities of digital transformation. His first foray into entrepreneurship occurred in 1996 as the CTO and co-founder of an e-learning start-up. In 2008, he co-founded Digital Seed, where he was the CEO until it was acquired by another company in October 2012.
He has worked in multinationals (IBM) and SMEs (GECSA), and also as an independent consultant in a wide range of industries including consultancy (IBM), technology (Lotus Development), communication and advertising (Abilbo), knowledge management (GECSA), marketing (Digital Seed) and e-learning (Retelcom). He has also been a lecturer on several masters (UPC and IQS), and courses at university (URL) and private entities.
