Like all global organizations the International Olympic Committee and the Olympic Games face constant scrutiny on sustainability. The future of the Games themselves depend on continual adaption to keep them economically, environmentally and socially relevant.
IOC President Thomas Bach will tell us about the reform program – Olympic Agenda 2020 - introduced in 2013 and how it is changing the way the Games are organized to respond to a changing global landscape.
We are very pleased to invite you to this session “What future for the Olympic Games?” by Thomas Bach, IOC President and Olympic Champion on Tuesday, February 25th.
This event will be an interactive session facilitated by Pr. Susan Goldsworthy and Olympic Finalist, Swimming, Montreal 1976.
Thomas Bach
Thomas is President of the International Olympic Committee (IOC) and Olympic Champion in Fencing. Born 1953 in Würzburg, Germany, he is a lawyer by profession and has had a successful career in sport both on and off the field of play. He became Olympic champion when he won a gold medal in fencing (team foil) at the Games of the XXI Olympiad in Montreal in 1976; on 10 September 2013 he was elected ninth President of the IOC. Thomas Bach was an athletes’ representative at the XI Olympic Congress in Baden-Baden (1981) and a founding member of the IOC’s Athletes’ Commission. He became an IOC member in 1991, was elected as a member of the IOC Executive Board in 1996 and served as an IOC Vice-President for more than 10 years. In 2006, he was named as the founding President of the German Olympic Sports Confederation (DOSB). Thomas Bach served in this position for seven years before becoming IOC President
Susan Goldsworthy
Susan is OLY is Affiliate Professor of Leadership and Organizational Change at IMD. A former Olympic finalist, she is co-author of award-winning books. Susan has more than 20 years of corporate experience in large multinationals, where she held senior management positions. She also ran her own successful business in leadership development, executive coaching and change communications for more than a decade. She is associate director of IMD’s most senior leadership program, CLEAR (Cultivating Leadership Energy through Awareness and Reflection).
