The year 2019 is arriving with a load of economic and financial scenarios. Will the Trump Administration confirm the escalation of its trade war with China with unpredictable consequences? How fast will the Federal Reserve increase interest rates? Will Trump’s tax reform trigger a slew of corporate operations? Will China manage to redress its imbalances (real estate bubbles, excessive leverage, arrears in public companies, exchange rate? What adjustments will emerging economies pursue (Brazil, Argentina, Turkey, ...)? What is the forecast for commodity markets such as oil? Are Brexit negotiations heading for a soft or hard outcome? How will interest rates gradually increase in Europe? How is the implementation of the European banking union going? Will the slow-down in Spain’s economy reveal a pressing need for reforms (competitiveness, taxation, regional funding, pensions, etc)? Will political uncertainty lead to a ‘lost economic year’ subject to election results (Spain, Catalonia)?
