Esade Alumni Entrepreneurship is holding a talk about funding for start-ups from the viewpoint of a venture capital firm. Our guest speaker, Giovanni Bologna (MBA 17), will share his experience as an investment analyst at Athos Capital, on Monday, 10 February at 19.00 at ESADE Barcelona (Av. Pedralbes 60-62). The talk will have an interview format with questions such as: What is the best way to approach a VC firm? How does a VC firm evaluate a start-up? What selection criteria do they apply? What aspects do they dislike? Do VC firms have standard metrics? Which are the most important documents? Do they prefer ambitious or realistic business plans? What does the VC firm do after making an investment? What information do VC firms request? Don’t hesitate to ask questions of your own! Looking forward to seeing you! Athos Capital is a VC firm that invests in companies that have a digital component and at least part of their business in Spain. They are particularly interested in companies using new technology to overhaul established industries in both B2B and B2C realms. Athos usually participates in Seed and A Series stages, and their main aim is to provide support for companies in the growth phase. Athos has offices in Barcelona and Madrid Giovanni Bologna (MBA 17) Giovanni Bologna (MBA 17) is an investment analyst at Athos Capital responsible for scouting new opportunities and managing the companies in their portfolio. He has a Bacherlor’s degree in law (Universitá degli Studi di Trieste, Italy) and MBA (Esade Business & Law School). His career started at the Clifford Chance law firm, in the M&A – ECM department in their Milan office. Following this experience in the legal profession, Giovanni entered the world of tech firms, working as a business development officer at Homebell, the German start-up specialised in home renovation services, and as an investment analyst in the new digital business department of the Godó group. He subsequently worked for a consultancy specialised in finding finance for start-ups until he joined Athos in 2017. Òscar Vayreda Òscar focuses mainly on two areas: helping entrepreneurs and investors ensure successful start-ups, and helping companies take advantage of the opportunities of digital change. In 1996, he started out as an entrepreneur and CTO as co-founder of an e-learning start-up. In 2008, he co-founded Digital Seed, where he was the CEO until it was bought out by another company in October 2012. He has worked in multinationals (IBM) and SMEs (GECSA), and as an independent consultant in a broad spectrum of industries including computer consulting (IBM), technology (Lotus Development), communication and advertising (Abilbo), knowledge management (GECSA), marketing (Digital Seed) and e-learning (Retelcom). He has taught on a variety of master courses (UPC and IQS) and university degrees (URL), and also at other private institutions.
