Rami Aboukhair

Economist educated at Harvard, IESE, Insead and the London Business School.

After a nine-year career at Repsol with experience in the distribution network, and after his period as marketing manager for Latin America, his career in the Santander group began in 2002, where he was appointed managing director of marketing, products and customers in Banesto.

In February 2011 he moved to London where he was the managing director of retail banking at Santander UK. During that period, under the guidance of Ana Botín, he implemented the cultural transformation of Santander UK into a simple, personal and fair bank, with a new retail commercial strategy based on the 1l2l3 strategy. This strategy focused on creating a bank for customers and made Santander the leading bank in terms of both connected customers (more than 3 million connected clients and leader in new accounts for wage-earners) and the quality of its service, with the bank moving up from last to first place according to FRS data.

In January 2015 he joined Santander Spain as general manager of commercial banking and on June 30th he was appointed CEO of Santander Spain. His priorities during this time have been to develop robust, long-term customer relationships; to become the bank preferred by companies; to provide excellent, innovative, quality service; to implement advanced risk management; and to achieve sustainable returns, all thanks to its simple, personal and fair philosophy. One of the springboards helping the bank achieve its goals is the 1l2l3 strategy, which fulfils different customer needs in a complex macroeconomic and regulatory environment.
